“…I cannot allow my sobriety to become dependent upon these ups and downs of living.” Alcoholics Anonymous, page 451
“Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.” James 1:12
For what its worth: During my alcoholic drinking years, I dealt with life’s trials with drink – as much as I could as fast as I could. Drunken oblivion was my escape. I did not realize I was limiting my emotional growth. I am blessed to have found a Program well experienced helping emotionally retarded drunks, Alcoholics Anonymous. There I was freely given proven methods of emotional growth and a Higher Power for spiritual strength as I ventured out into a sober life. Years of practice refusing the drink and facing some extremely stressful life circumstances has armed me with confidence that no matter what happens today, no matter how horrible, as long as I do not take that first drink, I will be blessed in some way by my Heavenly Father. If not today, soon. |
